Meet the Founder
Diedre Gray (she/her/hers) is an African-American transgender womxn. She is a Reverend, musician, educator and divorcee that has survived her share of challenges but considers herself tremendously blessed and highly favored. She brings all of her experience into every conversation with the main goal of supporting the independence of each person while sharing her patient and caring spirit. As a womxn of deep faith one of her foundational principles is
Philippians 4:12-13
12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; 13 for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.
As a black trans-womxn who has experienced some of life’s challenges including; unhealthy relationships, homelessness, major depression and unemployment, Diedre empathizes with many of the struggles her gender family face. Although some of these struggles are also experienced by other communities, in living our truth, multiple targets are placed on our backs adding several layers to what that struggle is. As a result, we strive not just to survive, but also to thrive. Auntie’s Home is here for such a time as this.
Our Executive Director, Diedre D. Gray, received the Engendered Spirit Award from DC Trans Pride for 2023
